Perry was born in Havre, Montana and raised in Zurich. His father was a railroad worker. Perry graduated from Chinook High School and went into the Navy for four years where he learned to be an electrician. He met the lady who would eventually be his wife, Sonia, when he was stationed in San Diego in 1965. She lived in Inglewood, California on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Then he was shipped off to Rota, Spain for two years. On returning to the United States in 1968, they became reacquainted and they were married on May 2nd of that same year.

Sonia was born in Ponce, P.R. and came to the states around 1963, where she lived with her father. Perry and Sonia have three children, Eric born in 1969, Emily born in 1973 and Carmen born in 1976. Each child has given them grandchildren and there now a total of seven.

Perry and Sonia live in Mead, Washington. Perry is currently employed by Bonneville Power Administration as an Electrician, and is looking forward to retirement. Perry sings both lead and backup vocals for Celebrate Grace.
